Karen Adam MSP welcomes new grants for farmers and crofters in Banffshire and Buchan Coast

SNP MSP Karen Adam MSP has welcomed new SNP grants for farmer in crofters in Banffshire and Buchan Coast.

Farmers and crofters in Scotland are set to benefit from the latest round of the Future Farming Investment Scheme, which can provide those eligible with a grant of up to £20,000.

The fund will support improvements ranging from better soil management and hedgerow creation to upgraded livestock handling facilities and new equipment.

The Scottish Government has set aside £14.25 million for the fund, with at least 725 farming and crofting businesses set to benefit across Scotland.

Karen Adam MSP has said the fund stands in stark contrast to the attack the UK Labour government has waged on rural Scotland including the Family Farm Tax, signing up to the Tories’ disastrous Brexit and compounding the damage by axing ring-fenced funding designed to support Scottish farmers.

Commenting, Karen Adam MSP said:

"Farmers and crofters are at the heart of communities across Banffshire and Buchan Coast, producing high-quality food, supporting local jobs and caring for the land.

"These new grants will help businesses modernise their operations and more future-proof in the face of rising costs and increasingly extreme weather.

“It is absolutely right we brought these grants forward as the Labour UK Government wage war on our rural communities be that through sky high diesel prices, compounding the damage of Brexit or the family farm tax.

"I would encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible for this fund to apply– only the SNP can be trusted to put the interests of our farmers first in the face of a Westminster system that simply doesn’t care.”
