Karen Adam MSP calls for GP Walk-in Centre in Banffshire and Buchan Coast

Karen Adam MSP for Banffshire and Buchan Coast has welcomed the opening of Scotland’s first GP-led walk-in service, and is now calling for one to be established in her own constituency.

The new clinic, open seven days a week from 12pm to 8pm, allows patients to access same day GP or advanced nurse care without an appointment. It is part of a £36 million Scottish Government pilot programme that will see 15 services rolled out across Scotland.

While welcoming the investment in faster access to primary care, Ms Adam has made clear that rural and coastal communities must not be left behind as the programme expands.

Speaking today, Karen Adam MSP said:

“This is a positive step forward. Same-day, GP-led care without needing an appointment will make a real difference for many people.

“But I am clear, Banffshire and Buchan Coast must be part of this rollout. I am actively calling for a walk in GP service to be established in our constituency.

“In rural and coastal communities like ours, accessing urgent care can mean long journeys or added pressure on already busy local services. A walk in centre here would give people quicker access to the right care, closer to home.

“Access to healthcare should not depend on your postcode. I will continue pressing for one of these services to be delivered in Banffshire and Buchan Coast.”

The walk in clinics aim to ease pressure on GP practices and hospitals by providing urgent care in the most appropriate setting. Further locations for the remaining services are expected to be confirmed in due course.

Ms Adam said she will continue engaging with health officials and Ministers to ensure her constituency is fully considered as the programme moves forward.
