Karen Adam MSP: Communities Must Be Heard on Moray Flow Park Plans
Banffshire and Buchan Coast MSP Karen Adam has called for local voices to be placed at the heart of discussions around the proposed project in the Moray Firth.
Karen has requested a meeting with the developers, Offshore Solutions Group, to discuss the plans in detail and ensure that the concerns of coastal and fishing communities are properly heard and addressed.
She said she has been listening to views across Banffshire and Buchan Coast, both while out on the doors and through conversations with fishers, business owners, and residents who have shared their concerns about the potential impact of the development.
Karen Adam MSP for Banffshire and Buchan Coast said:
“I completely understand the public’s concerns around the proposed Moray Flow Park, and I share many of them.
I’ve heard from fishers, those working in tourism, and families along our coast who worry about what this development could mean for their livelihoods and for our marine environment. I’ve asked to meet the developers directly and will be raising these concerns on behalf of our communities.
The energy transition must be a just one. That means it must be fair not only for our planet, but for the people and industries who already depend on our seas. The industry of the future cannot come at the expense of existing industries like fishing and tourism that sustain our coastal towns.”
Karen, who established the Cross-Party Group on Fisheries and Coastal Communities in the Scottish Parliament, said the situation reflects a wider need for early, genuine engagement with those most affected by major offshore developments.
“I set up the Cross-Party Group on Fisheries and Coastal Communities for this very reason, to make sure the people whose lives and livelihoods are most affected are included in decisions from the start, not consulted as an afterthought.
A public consultation on the Moray Flow Park project is expected to begin in 2026, and once it opens, I will make sure it is shared widely across Banffshire and Buchan Coast so as many constituents as possible can have their say.
Our communities deserve transparency, inclusion, and a voice in shaping the future of our coastline. I’ll continue to ensure they are listened to and respected every step of the way.”
